Fitchburg State College, also known as simply Fitchburg State, is a four year public institution of higher learning located in Fitchburg, which is the 3rd largest city in Worcester County, in the US state of Massachusetts, having a population of more than 39 000 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2000 census.
Fitchburg State was established in 1894, by the state legislature, and first started as the State Normal School in Fitchburg. Fitchburg State's athletic teams are known as the Falcons and they compete in NCAA Division III and New England Football Conference. Their distinctive colors are green and gold.
